Rana Al Mohsen is a licensed psychologist and counsellor with more than nine years of experience in mental health, psychosocial support, counselling, protection, and humanitarian response. Her work spans children, adolescents, youths, adults, and families, with a strong focus on psychological wellbeing, resilience, trauma, and emotional health.

Supporting Mental Health Across Different Life Stages

Rana has extensive experience providing individual, group, and family counselling to people across different age groups and circumstances.

Her therapeutic work addresses a broad range of psychological concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma and childhood trauma, addiction, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, adjustment difficulties, personality-related challenges, and coping skills.

Her approach draws on evidence-based and trauma-informed practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, humanistic, and developmental psychology perspectives. She has developed treatment plans and provided both individual and group therapeutic interventions.

Wellbeing and Resilience in the Workplace

Rana currently serves as a Staff Counsellor with IOM - UN Migration, supporting staff wellbeing across the MENA region.

Her work includes confidential individual counselling, group support, critical incident support, psychosocial risk assessments, wellbeing training, and the development of psychoeducational materials. This experience gives her a practical understanding of how individuals and teams respond to stress, uncertainty, and emotionally demanding environments.

Experience in Humanitarian and Community Mental Health

Before joining IOM, Rana worked with several humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, including the Institute for Family Health, Relief International, CARE International, Médecins Sans Frontières, and the International Catholic Migration Commission.

Through these roles, she developed practical experience in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), child protection, GBV-related support, case management, technical supervision, community-based psychosocial interventions, and capacity-building for staff and field teams.

At the center of Rana’s work is a commitment to promoting psychological wellbeing, strengthening resilience, and creating safe and supportive environments.

Her experience working with children, youths, adults, families, and professionals brings an important mental health perspective to conversations about how families and communities can support psychological and emotional wellbeing as the world around them continues to change.
