Shaping Education Systems for the AI Generation

Mr. Cameron Mirza is an international education leader with more than two decades of experience helping governments, universities, and education systems prepare for the future of learning. As Executive Project Director for IREX’s ASAS program in Jordan, he leads one of the region’s largest education reform initiatives, working with the Ministry of Education and national partners to strengthen teaching quality, modernize education systems, and advance AI readiness across the education sector.

Cameron also serves on the Board of Governors of the International Community School (ICS) in Amman, further connecting his work in education systems and policy with school-level governance and the needs of students, educators, and families.

Leading National Education Reform

Since 2020, Cameron has directed two major education programs in Jordan with combined budgets exceeding $70 million. These initiatives have trained more than 20,000 educators and support large-scale improvements in teaching quality, educational leadership, and learning outcomes. His work brings together government institutions, universities, teachers, parents, and development partners to reduce learning inequalities and expand access to high-quality education through innovation and collaboration.

AI and the Future of Learning

A significant part of Cameron’s work focuses on preparing education systems for the opportunities and challenges created by artificial intelligence. He leads AI for Education initiatives within IREX, helping policymakers and educators understand how AI can improve teaching, support learners, and shape future education policy. His work emphasizes responsible adoption of emerging technologies while ensuring that every child benefits from advances in digital learning.

International Leadership and Transformation

Before moving to Jordan, Cameron led major education transformation initiatives across the Middle East and the United Kingdom. He served as Head of Strategy for Bahrain’s Ministry of Higher Education before becoming Head of Transformation at the University of Bahrain, where he led institution-wide change programs. He also advised higher education institutions in Egypt, contributing to significant improvements in the international reputation and global standing of Egyptian universities.

Cameron is a published author and a regular speaker on artificial intelligence and education. His insights draw on practical experience implementing national reforms as well as his ongoing work helping governments prepare education systems for a rapidly changing technological landscape.

Education and Professional Development

Cameron holds a Master of Science from SOAS University of London, a Certificate in Digital Transformation from the University of Cambridge, and a postgraduate certificate in Business Analytics from Imperial College London. He also serves as a board member of the Global Impact Initiative (Gii).
